Finding Delight in Christ (Summer Series ’19)

Today, we will be nourished by Psalm 119:47-48.

47 How I delight in your commands! How I love them! 48 I honor and love your commands. I meditate on your decrees.

New Living Translation

Isn’t it amazing that the Lord can bring us to such a place where we absolutely delight and fall in love with His Word?

I think, it is a very beautiful thing.

The psalmist fell in love with the One True God – through His Word which we know as the Bible. He delighted in God’s Word. Not only did he thoroughly enjoy reading or reciting God’s commands, he did so in living out each directive given to him by the Lord.

How is our delight for the Lord and His Word? Is there that same kind of delight in living out His Word in our every day life?

I believe, this delight is something we need to pray for. Our Mighty God gives us the desire to read and carry out His will.

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.

Philippians 2:13

This verse requires us to take a step further. While God gives us the desire to do what will please Him, it is our responsibility to make sure we are drawing nearer to the Lord through God’s Son Jesus Christ. As a committed follower of Jesus Christ, we need to seek Him on a continual basis.

How can our souls crave and thrive on the very Word of God, if we never put a Bible in front of us?

Lately, as my FB group goes through our Summer Series, I have been almost daily coming to Psalm 119. And I am enjoying it. But, I still have to put in the effort – so my soul can experience the spiritual fruit of absolutely craving this time with the Lord Jesus Christ.

As I sit here this evening, I can see the progress I have made. We have spent about two weeks in this Psalm, and I notice when I haven’t taken the time to sit at His feet, as I seek His guidance and share my struggles, as I read the Bible and seek to obey Him in it.

My soul is like a nearly empty glass of water, which desperately needs to be filled up from the right source – so that my glass can remain filled up as long as possible.

Much like how a soda won’t hydrate me, the worldly things cannot give me what I need to receive from our Lord Jesus Christ!

Only our Jesus Christ can fill my soul.

Only our Lord Jesus can meet me where I am.

Only Jesus knows exactly what is on my heart.

And I can come to Him – ready to cry and share and He will lovingly meet me here!

Knowing the One True God who created us, will make us only crave His Word all the more!! So, what are we waiting for? How can we draw nearer to the Lord Jesus this weekend?

My goal is to keep having my daily quiet time. But, I want to add in more prayer times and make sure to write down those three requests. I try to focus on three requests per night, because this is what works for me. I won’t become as overwhelmed about my prayer list when it is three specific needs. Lately, those three needs have been the same. And the Lord is in the process of answering each one.
