#32 (Summer Series ’19)

“33 Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes; and I will keep it to the end. 34 Give me understanding, that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart. 35 Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. 36 Incline my heart to your testimonies, and not to selfish gain.”

I need You to do this for me, O Lord. Incline my heart to You and Your Word. Despite chronic illness. Despite my sinful nature. Lord, I so desperately need You especially on a day like today – when I just feel so lost and wondering how my life could have meaning or purpose in this.

That first verse is where my heart is sitting.

What it means for us?

▫️To seek to know the Lord Jesus through His Word and prayer.
▫️Stay committed in our relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ.

The word for “teach” literally means ‘to pour’. To have His prescribed truths habitually poured into us. The result of such a habitual action is breath taking, as we will follow our Lord Jesus Christ all the days of our lives.

In order to follow our Lord Jesus and His Words, we need to habitually place ourselves where we will hear and obey His Word! It is a habit we need to form and keep. And He is worthy!

. . . So, how can we choose to hear His Word so we may obey it? What kind of habits do we have in our lives, so we can intimately know and glorify God?

  1. Listen to the Bible.
  2. Write out (scribe) Bible passages.
  3. Listen to Scripture songs.
  4. Memorize Scripture.
  5. Listen to worship music.
  6. Read Christ centered books.

Friends, whatever feeds our spirit and draw nearer to our Lord Jesus! And allow His Word to change the way we live.

“[A]nd you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved (Matthew 10:22).”

“[B]ut Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are his house, if indeed we a hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope (Hebrews 3:6).”

“The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations (Revelation 2:26).”
