“Put false ways far from me and graciously teach me Your law! I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I set Your rules before me. I cling to Your testimonies, O Lord; let me not be put to shame! I will run in the way of Your commandments when You enlarge my heart! (Ps. 119:29-32).”English Standard Version
From this passage of Scripture, verse 32 is the one that catches my heart’s attention. As the Lord Jesus grows us, how are we literally running to God’s Word – running to the Lord’s commandments?
This is a question that we need to seriously asking ourselves. How are we falling deeply and more madly in love with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? Are we?
In this passage, the psalmist does something that we also should do: Put away our false ways, and choose our Mighty God instead. We need to repent – to turn from our sins and turn to our God. Because of Jesus Christ, God’s Son, we can experience a brand new relationship with our Creator and Heavenly Father!
I am reminded of what our God promises to do for us in the book of Ezekiel:
24I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. 25I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. 26And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. 27And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules.a28You shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your God (Ezekiel 36:24-28).
Our God is fully able to transform our hearts from the inside-out. So, what are we waiting for? What is stopping us from fully giving ourselves to our God and King who has chosen to save us from every evil act we have ever committed?
“Make me understand the way of Your precepts, and I will meditate on Your wondrous works(Ps. 119:27).”
“I have set the Lord always before me; because He is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken (Ps. 16:8).”
“Uphold me according to Your promise, that I may live, and let me not be put to shame in my hope (Ps. 119:116).”
“And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding beyond measure, and breadth of mind like the sand on the seashore(1 Kings 4:29).”
“Then You shall see and be radiant; Your heart shall thrill and exult, because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to You, the wealth of the nations shall come to You (Isaiah 60:5).”
“We have spoken freely to you, Corinthians; our heart is wide open. You are not restricted by us, but you are restricted in your own afflictions. In return (I speak as to children) widen your hearts also (2 Corinthians 6:11-13).”
