#11 (2019 Series)

Read Luke 11, Psalm 144:5-6

One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.”

Luke 11:1

Jesus, the Christ, led by example. As the disciples saw Jesus praying, they asked Him to show them how to pray. This shows us prayer is an important part of the Christian life.

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Verse 13

As we pray, the Lord pours His best on us. Our Lord has good good gifts in store for us, but we need to keep communicating with Him through prayer. This is why prayer is such a big deal. It makes a difference, in terms of our relationship with our Heavenly Father.

How are we making the time and effort to have a regular prayer life? Something more than grace over our meals.

A time of prayer to worship and bring all of our needs before our Mighty God, as we remember who He is and who we are in Him.

He is mighty to save.

He loves us.

He is able to deliver us from our circumstances.

What is stopping us from regularly, intentionally, coming before His throne of grace in prayer?

We make sure we bring our laundry and wash everything before we have a big mess. If only we could see the dirty laundry of our hearts, but we keep carrying it around. On our own. When we don’t have to. Our hearts get weighed down by our sins, words we are told, and many things.

The Lord stands ready to forgive us, help us work through our stuff, and give us the strength we need. What is stopping us from coming before Him for a time of spiritual renewal and being cleansed from the inside out, so our load may be lightened?

Our Spiritual Laundry

We need to come before the Lord God and REPENT. We need to acknowledge God is holy, admit we have sinned against Him, turn to God, and turn away from our sin. This is what repentance truly is.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9

We need to be washed by the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ who can cleanse us from every sin and wrongdoing. He is the soap for our souls, and able to make us 100% clean again. He can make us cleaner than we have ever been before. Because of the work of the cross. Our Lord went through so much on our behalf. He took the weight of our sins and became the most painful sin offering we could imagine.

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.

Isaiah 1:18

Have you ever seen “The Passion of the Christ”? Admittedly, it is a hard movie to watch… but it reminds me of a glimpse of what Jesus Christ endured for my sake. I am so thankful for the salvation of Jesus Christ, and now I can have PEACE with God – my Creator. I have been RECONCILED to my God, and nothing can take that away from me.

There is a heavy weight on my heart, and I know I need to bring it before my Mighty God. I need to lay it all out on the table, and show my God in an intimate setting – and just surrender everything to Him. I am in the process of doing that today. My soul is so heavy. Some of it is sin, other of it is stuff to work through and pray about.

But, I have spiritual laundry to take care of today. How about you?

Set down your phone.

Invite His presence into the room.

Sit with your Bible and notebook ready to hear from the Lord.

And, talk to Him like you would a friend.
