#2 (2019 Series)

Read Luke 2, Psalm 20

As I listen to Luke 2, I am reminded of the different ways we can respond to the Lord God Almighty. We can respond with questions. We can respond with quiet submissiveness. We can choose to believe and take God at His Word.

The people in today’s passage – took God at His Word. They chose to believe, and live life based on such belief. They had reverence for our God and tried to follow Him to the best of their abilities.

As they met the Messiah, they praised God.

In Like 2, we see the following people respond in obedience to God:

  • Mary and Joseph. They went to Bethlehem for the consensus. It wasn’t convenient, especially with a baby on the way. But, they chose to obey the emperor’s orders, rather than to rebel against them. This shows a deep trust in the Lord. Also, they chose to trust God and offer their son by presenting him in the Temple.
  • The Shepherds. I love verses 15, where they believed and went to see what had happened.
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
  • Simeon. He saw the child and praised God. Simeon knew this child was indeed the Messiah. The Promised One.
  • Anna. We don’t much about her, but her faith in God is evident. She spent her days worshiping the Lord and serving in the temple.
  • Jesus! Notice verses 41-52. Jesus chose to live in obedience to the Father. We cannot miss this. Jesus wasn’t a robot. He’s both fully God and fully human. He actually stayed at the Temple to sit with the religious leaders, while his family begun their journey home.

How are we making a commitment to place our relationship with God through His Son Jesus Christ – the most important thing in our lives? How are we choosing to believe God and live our lives in obedience as a result?
