Knowing Where Our Struggle Comes From {{Week 2}}

Hello friends!

Today, we kick off week 2. For those who are just joining us, we have begun a brand new online Bible study on the book of Ephesians.

For such an occasion, there is even a Scripture writing journal – if you think that is something that would interest you! You can head over to Amazon, and check it out (link at end of post). The journal is $8. So, not a bad price for a 6 week study.

You can learn more about the study and journal here, herehere, and here. (((One more link: If you want to see past posts during the study, you can go here – and find all the journal entries I have posted so far.)))

I am actually really enjoying the journal. My time in the Word of God is effective, and being used to continue to be transformed by God!

Let’s Get Started

As we get ready to rev’ up our weekend and brand new Bible study week, I want to invite you all to join me as we look at today’s passages. Take a few moments and read Ephesians 2:1-3, Colossians 2:13-14 before proceeding. Then, meet me back here.

Passions and Desires

Something I want us to understand is that sinful passions and desires are struggles we have long time faced. If we are followers of Christ, this is part of our old self.

See when we came to Jesus Christ, when He called us by name and saved us, He did something mighty we cannot overlook! He came, to save us from the Devil. He came to save us from our sinful selves.

While you once obeyed Satan in everything you thought, said, and did, Jesus is inviting you to see there is a new way. Jesus calls Himself the Way, Truth, and the Life!

I don’t know where you stand today, but I want life. True life. Abundant life.

I am tired of struggling against my sinful self in my own strength. I am tired of the temptation of all kinds that I face, because I am not listening for God’s voice.

Instead of God’s voice, I keep listening and watching for other things. Instead of running to God, I run to temptation and sin.

I want you to listen to me when I say this:

When Jesus redeems us, He disarms the Devil. This is why we can refuse to follow the passions and desires of our former selves. Jesus is cutting away our sinful nature…

Our Present Help!

The struggle we face today is real, but God is real and ready to be our ever-present help in every single struggle we face at this very moment! More than that, God wants to help us in our struggle. God wants us to stop listening to the lies of the Devil, and finally begin to let God’s Word be sown in our spirits – so that we can live out His incredible truth for our lives!

God wants to help us. God wants to work in our lives.

… But, we must come to Him. We must come to Him.

In Ephesians 2:1-3, we learn about what we once were. When we were trapped in sin, we were obeying the Devil. We were so far away from God and His truth. Yet, even then, God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross, taking on our punishment from sin, and rose again to give us new life.

While we were enemies of God, He came to save us. That’s the kind of love God has for us!

How can we respond to the love of Christ and allow Him to grant us victory?

  1. Stacey your blogs are soothing to my soul. I read both verses you wrote down, however I am somewhat behind in the study.  Just plain lazy, I will not try and give an excuse.

    1. I am a bit behind in mine also. It will happen. Just enjoy wherever you are in your study. Keep your focus on Him. That’s the important thing!

I am hoping to get to the study today. My next portion is on the spiritual gifts. Looking forward to studying it. =] Just haven’t yet, because life happens. Just learning to seek Him where I am and as I am.
